Storia: I The Crack sono una band storica della musica Oi!, ma troppo spesso di difficile reperibilità anche per le controversie della loro storia. Si formano nel 1982 con la seguente line-up: Steve Jones: Voce-Chitarra, Shane Woolridge: Chitarra, Dean Gifford: Basso, Andy King: Batteria. Nello stesso anno vincono il concorso televisivo "Battle of the Bands" indetto dalla BBC, con il brano "Don’t you ever let me down". Questo li porta a firmare un contratto per la RCA Records, con la quale incidono due 45": "Going Out" e "All or nothing", entrambi nel 1983. A metà degli anni ’80 nascono due progetti musicali paralleli del leader Steve Jones: i Gun Shy, la cui line-up è così formata:Steve Jones: Voce-Chitarra, Maz: Chitarra, Dave Beal: Basso, Mark Mobley: Batteria e i THE GUV’NORS con: Steve Jones: Voce, Mark Brennan (ex The Business): Basso, Steve Kent (ex The Business): Chitarra, Mark Brabbs (ex Tank/Blood): Batteria. Nonostante i cambiamenti in line-up e i diversi nomi, le sonorità rimangono quelle classiche che contraddistinguono le prime incisioni. Con la formazione dei Gun Shy, ma sotto il vecchio nome di THE CRACK registrano, nel 1989, il primo LP "In search of The Crack" per la Link Records. L’estro di Steve Jones lo porterà anche a collaborare con Wurzel, chitarrista dei Motorhead, con il quale inciderà dei pezzi, creando quello che sarà la prima incarnazione degli Heavy Metal Outlaws. Nel 1996 pubblicano un 10" "The Crack want’s you" per la Pin Up Records con la formazione attuale che è la stessa dei Gun Shy, ma con Mark Hannan alla batteria. Molti i concerti della band, da ricordare il tour negli USA, ad Atlanta, e in Europa esibendosi in Germania, Francia, Gran Bretagna e Italia, da ricordare la splendida prestazione a Vicenza. Nonostante l’età avanzata degli elementi le loro esibizioni sul palco sono sempre ad alto livello e la speranza è di rivedere presto Steve e i suoi correre e saltare su e giù per il palco. ( By Gab )
